IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS EDITION OF CITADELS INCLUDES THE BASIC GAME AND THE DARK CITY EXPANSION! GREAT VALUE!
From Board Game Geek:
Players seek to build a collection of buildings worth from one to eight points. Once someone's built eight buildings, then the game is over and the player with the highest total value wins. However to facilitate the process (and make the game interesting), players sequentially chose a character from a rapidly dwindling pool of eight each turn. The characters give players special abilities for the turn.
From the publisher's website:
Nominated for the German Game of the Year in 2000, Citadels has delighted gamers in English for years. Game enthusiasts of all genres will be enchanted by this wonderful game of bluffing, deduction, and city-building. Wrapped in a medival theme and gorgeously illustrated, players seek to be the first to complete a grand city of their own. Each game round players secretly take the roles of either the King, Magician, Architect, Assasin, Thief, Bishop, Warlord, or Merchant and seek to use the powers of such offices in their efforts to win the game. This ultimate edition of Citadels includes 10 new cards designed by Bruno Faidutti and not available in the original German edition, featuring new locations and characters. It also includes the Dark City expansion to previous editions of the game, featuring 14 new purple district cards and a handsome wooden King marker.
